Epilepsy

Epilepsy is a group of more than 40 neurological conditions sharing a common symptom – seizures. It can be caused from head injury, infection, brain tumors, fever, or other trauma. There are over 30 types of seizures, some of which are more serious than others. Some seizures may occur for a short period of time, while others may be more dramatic, where consciousness is lost.

Anyone can develop epilepsy. Most forms are not hereditary, but this condition can run in some families. Diagnosis of epilepsy is completed after a person has had multiple seizures. The most common treatment is use of anti-convulsant drugs, which allow those with epilepsy to maintain a life with normal activities.
