Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders

While more than 1.5 million people suffer from Parkinson’s disease, there are also other common movement disorders that can affect patients’ daily activities and quality of life. These include tremors, gait disorders, involuntary movement problems and tic disorders. Parkinson’s disease (also known as PD) is a type of movement disorder and strikes men and women of all ages. It can cause the muscles to become rigid. This, in turn, can cause impaired physical movement. PD can also cause what is known as tremor (an involuntary movement of a body part such as shaking of the hands) as well as freezing movements.
